A 7-day Disney World trip is the sweet spot for families. You get all four parks with breathing room, a rest day, and time to actually enjoy your resort. This is the exact itinerary I build for families of four when they ask me to plan a full week. Adjust the order based on your park reservations and crowd predictions, but the structure works.
Day 1: Arrival and Resort Day
Most families try to hit a park the day they arrive. Don't. You're tired from travel, your kids are wired, and the parks are at their fullest on weekends when most arrivals happen. Use day 1 to settle in.
- Morning: Travel to Orlando. Pick up rental car or shuttle to resort.
- Afternoon: Check in, explore the resort, swim at the pool, take a nap.
- Evening: Dinner at a resort restaurant. 'Ohana at the Polynesian or Trail's End at Fort Wilderness for a relaxed start. Walk around the resort, see fireworks from the dock if possible.
Day 2: Magic Kingdom
The most iconic park goes first. Energy is high, expectations are higher, and you want to ride the wave of excitement.
- 7:00 AM: Book Lightning Lane Multi Pass starting with Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.
- Early entry (resort guests): Walk straight to Seven Dwarfs Mine Train or Tron Lightcycle Run.
- Morning: Big mountains, Big Thunder, Space Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean.
- Lunch: Pecos Bill or Cosmic Ray's. Counter-service.
- Afternoon: Rest at the resort from 1 to 4 PM. Critical.
- Evening: Back to Magic Kingdom for fireworks. Position on Main Street by 8:30 PM for Happily Ever After.
Day 3: EPCOT
Day 3 is a slower-paced day after the Magic Kingdom marathon. EPCOT rewards walking pace and pavilion exploration.
- Rope drop: Guardians of the Galaxy or Frozen Ever After. Book Lightning Lane Single Pass for Guardians at 7 AM.
- Morning: Test Track, Soarin', The Seas with Nemo.
- Lunch: Eat your way around World Showcase. Mexico for tacos, Japan for sushi, France for crepes.
- Afternoon break: Continue eating and drinking through World Showcase. Or return to resort if needed.
- Evening: Stay for EPCOT's nighttime show. Excellent viewing from the UK pavilion area.
Day 4: Rest Day or Disney Springs
This is where most family trips go wrong. They keep pushing parks and burn out by day 5. A planned rest day prevents this and is honestly one of the best parts of a Disney week.
- Morning: Sleep in. Late breakfast at the resort.
- Afternoon: Pool, lazy river, or a resort hopping trip. Take the monorail loop and visit the Polynesian and Grand Floridian.
- Evening: Disney Springs. Free to enter, lots of dining options, live music, shopping. The World of Disney store alone keeps kids occupied for an hour.
Day 5: Hollywood Studios
This is your most thrill-ride heavy day. Galaxy's Edge alone is half the day. Prep your kids: lots of walking, lots of waiting if you don't strategize.
- 7:00 AM: Book Slinky Dog Dash on Multi Pass, buy Rise of the Resistance Single Pass if available.
- Rope drop: Walk to Rise of the Resistance or Slinky Dog Dash.
- Morning: Tower of Terror, Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, Toy Story Mania.
- Lunch: Ronto Roasters in Galaxy's Edge or Backlot Express.
- Afternoon: Build a lightsaber at Savi's Workshop, walk through all of Galaxy's Edge.
- Evening: Fantasmic at sunset. One of the best Disney shows ever made.
Day 6: Animal Kingdom
The most underrated park. The natural beauty alone is worth the day.
- 7:00 AM: Book Avatar Flight of Passage on Multi Pass.
- Rope drop: Kilimanjaro Safaris. Animals are most active in the morning.
- Morning: Festival of the Lion King show, Expedition Everest, Na'vi River Journey.
- Lunch: Satu'li Canteen in Pandora. Genuinely the best counter-service at Disney.
- Afternoon: Return to resort for a swim. Animal Kingdom closes earlier than other parks.
- Evening: Dinner reservation at California Grill at the Contemporary. Watch Magic Kingdom fireworks from the 15th floor. Best dinner of the trip.
Day 7: Park Choice and Departure
You know the resort by now. Choose your family's favorite park for half a day or hit a park you didn't visit deeply enough.
- Morning: Pick a park and hit your favorite 3 to 4 rides. Magic Kingdom is the classic choice.
- Afternoon: Check out, head to the airport.

Adjustments for Different Family Types
Younger kids (under 6)? Swap Hollywood Studios day 5 with Magic Kingdom (you'll want a second Magic Kingdom day). Teens? Add more Galaxy's Edge time and skip the second Magic Kingdom day. Adults only? Skip the rest day and add EPCOT Food and Wine if it's the season.
