Hollywood Studios has undergone the most dramatic transformation of any Disney park in the last decade. The addition of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge and Toy Story Land, combined with the existing Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, make it the most thrill-dense park at Walt Disney World. It's also the park with the most concentrated demand for a small number of high-priority experiences, which makes planning more important here than anywhere else.
The Rides That Will Eat Your Day (Plan Around These)
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The most ambitious theme park attraction ever built. A 28-minute experience that takes you inside a Star Wars battle, hangar bay, AT-AT walker confrontations, Kylo Ren, with special effects and scale that are genuinely jaw-dropping. Rise of the Resistance uses a virtual queue or Lightning Lane Single Pass system. Check the My Disney Experience app for availability at 7 AM (virtual queue) or buy Single Pass early. This is the must-do of Hollywood Studios.
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run ⭐⭐⭐⭐
You fly the Millennium Falcon on a mission. The theming of the queue alone is worth the wait, walking through Batuu and into the Falcon feels genuinely cinematic. Book Lightning Lane Multi Pass for this in the morning.
Slinky Dog Dash ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The most demanded non-Star-Wars ride at the park. A family-friendly coaster through Andy's backyard with Toy Story theming. Book LLMP at 7 AM, this is your first booking if Rise of the Resistance isn't available. Wait times regularly exceed 90 minutes by mid-morning.
Twilight Zone Tower of Terror ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The randomized drop sequence means every ride is different. The theming is extraordinary, one of Disney's finest attraction experiences in terms of atmosphere and storytelling. Book LLMP mid-morning once your earlier selections are used.
Rock 'n' Roller Coaster ⭐⭐⭐⭐
A dark indoor coaster with an Aerosmith soundtrack that launches from 0 to 57 mph in under three seconds. Multiple inversions. High demand. Use LLMP or ride it at rope drop.
Galaxy's Edge Strategy
Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is a fully immersive land with its own environment, language, and story. To get the most out of it:
- Go first thing in the morning, Galaxy's Edge crowds peak midday as day guests arrive
- Build a lightsaber at Savi's Workshop ($299.99, 1-hour experience, reservations required)
- Build a droid at the Droid Depot ($119.99, walk-ins sometimes available)
- Drink the Blue or Green Milk at the Milk Stand (it's a real experience)
- Walk through slowly, the environmental storytelling rewards attention
Shows Worth Your Time
Hollywood Studios has some of the best live entertainment at Disney World:
- Fantasmic!: A nighttime outdoor show with Mickey Mouse, classic villains, and spectacular water effects. One of the best shows in theme park history. Get there 45 minutes early for a good spot. Dining packages offer reserved viewing sections, worth it on crowded nights.
- Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular: A live stunt show performed in a 2,000-seat outdoor amphitheater. Genuinely exciting and unique.
Daily Strategy
- Arrive at rope drop. Walk directly to Rise of the Resistance (check virtual queue status at 7 AM).
- Ride Slinky Dog Dash at rope drop if Rise of the Resistance is on LLSP that day
- Book Slinky Dog Dash, Millennium Falcon, and Tower of Terror on LLMP starting at 7 AM
- Spend Galaxy's Edge time in the late morning when early arrivals have left
- Midday break at the resort if you have kids or need a rest
- Return for Tower of Terror and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster in the late afternoon
- Stay for Fantasmic!, it's worth the evening
