Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (MNSSHP) is one of Disney's most beloved annual events. From early August through October 31, Magic Kingdom hosts special after-hours Halloween-themed parties that include trick-or-treating, exclusive entertainment, character costumes, and significantly lower crowd levels. Here's everything you need to know.
When It Runs
MNSSHP typically runs on select nights from mid-August through October 31. Disney announces specific 2026 dates in late spring or early summer. The event runs from 7 PM to midnight, but ticket holders can enter the park as early as 4 PM.
What Makes It Special
MNSSHP is not a regular park day with Halloween decorations. It's a separately ticketed event with:
- Lower attendance than regular park days (Disney caps tickets)
- Trick-or-treat stations throughout the park with full-size candy
- Special parades, fireworks, and stage shows exclusive to the party
- Characters dressed in their Halloween costumes (Mickey as a vampire, Donald as a wizard, etc.)
- Rare character meet-and-greets (sometimes Jack Skellington, Oogie Boogie, the Sanderson Sisters)
- Guests welcomed to wear costumes (kids and adults)
Ticket Pricing
MNSSHP tickets are sold separately from regular park tickets:
- Adults: $109 to $209 depending on the night (Saturdays are most expensive)
- Children (ages 3 to 9): Slightly less, around $99 to $199
- The night before Halloween (October 30) and Halloween night (October 31) sell out first
You can attend the party even without a regular park ticket, the MNSSHP ticket includes park access starting at 4 PM.
The Best Halloween Party Experiences
Boo to You Parade
The signature MNSSHP parade. Features the Headless Horseman riding through Liberty Square, Disney villains dancing in the streets, and special party music. Two showings per night. Watch from Frontierland or Main Street, U.S.A.
Hocus Pocus Villain Spectacular
A stage show featuring the Sanderson Sisters (Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy's characters from Hocus Pocus). Multiple showings throughout the night.
Disney's Not-So-Spooky Spectacular Fireworks
A party-exclusive fireworks show with projections on Cinderella Castle. Different from the regular Magic Kingdom fireworks.
Cadaver Dans
A Halloween version of the Dapper Dans barbershop quartet, singing Halloween-themed songs throughout the night.
Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow
An iconic Disney moment. Watch the Headless Horseman gallop down Main Street, U.S.A. before each parade.
Trick-or-Treat Strategy
Throughout the party, Disney sets up trick-or-treat stations marked by lanterns. Each station gives kids (and adults) a generous handful of full-size, name-brand candy. The trick-or-treat lines move fast.
- Bring a small backpack or trick-or-treat bag to collect candy
- The candy bags get heavy quickly, plan accordingly
- Disney also offers allergen-friendly options at certain stations
- Disney consistently gives more candy per station than you'd expect
The Costume Rules
MNSSHP is one of the only Disney World events where guests can wear costumes. The rules:
- Costumes are allowed for all ages
- No masks for guests 14 and older (face paint is fine)
- No props that could be mistaken for weapons
- No costumes that drag on the ground or impede other guests
- Costumes should be Disney-appropriate (family-friendly)
The Best Costumes to Wear
- Group costumes (family of Incredibles, Mary Poppins crew, Toy Story characters)
- Couple costumes (Mickey and Minnie, Aladdin and Jasmine)
- Character "Disneybounding" (regular clothes that suggest a Disney character)
- Halloween-themed Disney (Sanderson Sisters, Nightmare Before Christmas characters)
What to Skip at the Halloween Party
Some advice on what's actually less important:
- Most rides: You're not paying $150 to ride Peter Pan's Flight. Use the party time for Halloween-exclusive experiences instead.
- The Lightning Lane upgrade for the night: Crowds are low enough that Lightning Lane often isn't necessary.
- Trying to do everything: Pick 4 to 5 experiences (parade, fireworks, a few rides, trick-or-treating, one character meet) and enjoy them fully.
Is the Halloween Party Worth It?
For families who love Halloween, Disney, and want a unique Disney experience: absolutely yes. The lower crowds alone make it valuable, and the exclusive entertainment elevates the experience beyond a normal Disney day. For families on a tight budget or doing a single Magic Kingdom day, it's harder to justify the extra cost. But for families staying for multiple Magic Kingdom days during August through October, adding one MNSSHP night is one of the best Disney World decisions you can make.
